Postponed: 2020 SCORE San Felipe 250

UPDATE 3/18/20: SCORE has made the tough decision to postpone the San Felipe 250 due to the COVID-19 virus that is affecting the world.

Mexico’s Federal Government has issued a National decree of safe distancing to be in effect from March 23 through April 19. Further, the Mexican Federal Government has mandated the rescheduling or canceling of all non-essential events of 5,000 people or more in the entire country of Mexico.

Additionally, SCORE has announced a date change for the 52nd SCORE Baja 500 race week from June 3-7 to June 16-21.

“In order to provide teams with as much time as possible to prepare between races, we have also rescheduled this year’s SCORE Baja 500,” stated Jose A. Grijalva, SCORE President/Race Director. “We sincerely appreciate the patience, support and understanding from all of our racers and sponsors as well as the coordination with Mexican Federal, State and Municipal Authorities, but under the circumstances that have impacted day to day activities around the World, SCORE International has determined that these changes are the best options or everyone involved.”

“We also want to remind teams, crews, media and the fans the importance of following preventative measures such as washing hands regularly, avoiding direct contact with other individuals and covering your mouth when coughing,” added Grijalva.

SCORE will continue to monitor the health crisis and develop a more detailed schedule of events for each race over the next several weeks.

UPDATE 3/13/20: SCORE has announced some changes to the schedule of events for the first race of the year due to concerns related to the COVID 19 (novel Coronavirus). Most significant changes will include moving racer and media registration as well as Race Tech Inspection to the Pavilion at El Dorado Ranch which will be closed to the public so race teams will not be required to drive through the Malecon except on race day.

“After consulting and evaluating the situation with Mexican authorities we are making a series of modifications to the schedule of events for our season-opening SCORE San Felipe 250,” commented Jose A. Grijalva, SCORE President/Race Director. “While certain elements are still being finalized, our goal is to minimize the exposure of racers, crews, and staff with the public. We will be providing updates as needed as we begin pre-running this weekend in preparation for the following week of race activities and the race itself.”

“We also want to remind teams, crews, media, and the fans the importance of following preventative measures such as washing hands regularly, avoiding direct contact with other individuals and covering your mouth when coughing,” added Grijalva. “If you feel sick or have any flu-like symptoms avoid coming to the race. We also encourage the public to enjoy the race out on the course and avoid large concentrations of fans.”

We have had plenty of racing action in the States this year, but racing in Baja is right around the corner. The 2020 SCORE racing season is set to kick off with the San Felipe 250 taking place March 24-29.

The San Felipe 250 is a racer favorite of the year for those racing in Baja. The race will be televised on a delayed basis on the World of X Games show on the ABC Television Network as co-produced by SCORE International and award-winning BCII TV of Los Angeles.

The course has been plotted with several sections not used before or not in several years and COPS Racing has entered three vehicles in premier classes as 94 total early entries to date have come from 19 U.S. States along with host country Mexico, Canada, Denmark, and New Zealand. Also leading the latest entries in the race are SCORE’s NASCAR and IndyCar veteran Robby Gordon, Mexico’s Gustavo ‘Tavo’ Vildosola and husband/wife racers Wayne Matlock and Kristen Matlock.
