Mint 400: Limited Class Race In The Books

The time has come for what we have been waiting for all week long. The Mint 400 racing kicked off Friday, March 6th with the limited class race. This class featured UTVs, Class 1450, and even some military vehicles.

For the second time in his career and the first since 2016, Branden Sims scored the UTV Pro Turbo victory in the BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400 when he took the top spot in Friday’s limited class race. After drawing the second starting spot, Sims was on the first row of racers to start the Great American Off-Road Race and never looked back from the top spot.

“It was a long time coming, but man was it worth it!” Sims said from the podium. “Today was a great day. We started out front, and never had any other battles we had to worry about. The only battle we had was what was in my mind, about who was in the back trying to sneak up on us. You never know when you’re in front—your car can only do as much as it can do.”

For Concrete Motorsports and their Class 1450 truck “Chuck,” this race served a different purpose. The team will be racing their Herbst Smith Fabrication truck in Saturday’s unlimited race, but used the limited race to prerun a non-prerunable course.

Concrete Motorsports had every driver and co-driver combo do a lap to get familiar with the course. This should help them on Saturday’s race as they take off first for qualifying with the fastest time. Did we mention they won their class in the limited race? This could lead to more success next time they hit the dirt.

Action from the BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400 will continue on Saturday at 11 AM PST with the unlimited race featuring the big boys of desert racing. The Unlimited Truck class and the Spec Truck class are among the few classes racing today. Be sure to check out The Mint 400 website for the live stream. Will you be watching?
